Goods Movement will Become Easier from 1 Feb 2018 through e-Way Bill

From 1 February 2018 onward transportation of goods from one state to the other will become easier and hassle-free as parties needs to generate separate transit passes. With e-Way bill coming into the picture, parties can now generate an online e-Way bill which is valid throughout India.

Any movement of goods from one state to the other within a radius of more than 10 kms and valued at ₹50, 000 or above will require an e-Way bill. Post obtaining this bill, transporters are not required to visit any tax office or check posts for obtaining any additional documents.

The e-Way bill has already made its presence felt in Kerala, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. As per the current estimates, these states generate around 1,40,000 e-Way bills on a daily basis. Post 31st January 2018, other states would also join the league.

For the purpose of generating an e-way bill, users can visit and get registered. For registrating, users would be required to give their GSTIN. If a user has not registered himself till date, then he can do so by enrolling his name under GST through his PAN card or Aadhaar card.

As of now, there is no way to cancel an e-Way bill within 24 hours of its generation. It should also be noted that e-Way bill is not required if the transporting vehicle is non-motorized. There is also an exemption to the list of goods that require an e-Way bill; they are – fish, fruits, water and vegetables.

Thus, we find that the Government of India has taken a bold initiative to make the inter-state transportation of goods faster as well as transparent. Given the online procedure, parties can now generate their way bill in an instant and it also helps state of reduce cases of tax evasion.
