The Government of India has been constantly focusing on using Aadhar Card as a comprehensive tool for identifying individuals. Be it your mobile number or your bank account, now everything needs to be linked to the Aadhar number before the given deadline. For people who are unaware of the exact date, here is what you do before 31st December 2017-
- Link Aadhar Card with PAN Card – The latest deadline by the Government for linking Aadhar card with PAN card is 31st December 2017. This deadline is the third shift. Earlier, the Government had set 1st July 2017 as the deadline for tax payers. However, mismatch in information has delayed the process by almost six months. It should be noted that only those who pay taxes under the IT Act are required to link their PAN card with Aadhar card. People whose income is not taxable under the IT Act are not required to link their Aadhar card.
- Link Aadhar Card with Financial Institutes – Another 31 December 2017 deadline is for linking Aadhar Card with Financial Institute products such as credit card, debit card, small saving schemes, SIPs, mutual funds, PPF, etc. For people who have availed loan from banks/ any other lending institute, they are also required to attach their Aadhar card information with the loan. Currently all financial institutes are working towards helping their customers understand the importance of KYC (Know-your-customer).
- Link Aadhar Card with Social Security Scheme – The last date of connecting Social Security Schemes with Aadhar card was 30 September 2017. However, the government has agreed to offer a grace period to the pubic and has extended the deadline to 31 December 2017. Failing to do so may deprive the owners from their current returns.
2018 deadline for connecting Aadhar Card
Apart from the above-mentioned deadlines, another important deadline is on 6th February 2018. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked all telecom operators to re-verify its list of users by contacting them on their respective numbers. Aadhar number should now also be linked to the mobile numbers.
Thus, we find that Aadhar card has become an integral part of a common man’s life. No matter what you are purchasing or what are you offering, Aadhar card will always serves as a single source for tracking. Final judgement from the Supreme Court in this regard is still pending.
